Dental Implant Placement

At its simplest definition, dental implants are used to replace missing teeth. Typically, dental implants are tiny posts made of titanium that are surgically placed into the jawbone where teeth are missing. These posts serve as anchors for artificial replacement teeth.

If a single tooth is missing, a single prosthesis, also called a crown, can be attached to an individual implant. If two or more teeth are missing a patient may receive a partial prosthesis, or fixed bridge, which may require only two or three implants. Finally, a complete dental prosthesis that can be completed in a variety of ways, is used to replace an entire set of teeth on the upper or lower jaw. The number of implants a patient receives can vary depending on the patient’s specific needs and findings from 3-D images.

These artificial teeth look, feel and act just like natural teeth. Not only will this procedure will help a person with missing teeth eat and smile with confidence, but dental implants help preserve facial structure and prevent bone deterioration that can occur where teeth are missing.

Immediate Dental Implant Placement

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry's standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.

Bone Grafting

Before receiving a dental implant, patients who have thin or soft jaw bones may require a bone graft. Although the name may sound scary, bone grafting is a routine procedure that plays in important role in the dental implant placement process. This procedure allows your natural bone to grow in a specific area that is needed to support a dental implant. The new bone growth will serve as the sturdy foundation for the dental implant. You can be reassured that you will receive the best care knowing Dr. Uzel has over 25 years of experience performing guided bone regenerative surgeries and earned his Doctor of Science in bone biology. Not only has he preformed thousands of procedures, but also authored articles and book chapters on bone biology and regeneration.

Sinus Augmentation

A successful dental implant requires a strong jawbone to be placed into.

The maxillary sinuses are empty spaces of air found behind your cheeks and above your upper teeth. Only the teeth and a thin layer of bone are all that separate the sinuses from the mouth. When a patient loses a tooth, the thin layer of bone left is not substantial enough to support a dental implant. To create a study base for a dental implant, sinus augmentation may be required. Sinus augmentation creates space in the sinuses to allow new bone to form. The new, strong bone, is what will serve as the base for the dental implant. Without this treatment, the only option to replace missing top-jaw teeth would be dentures that covers the whole palate!

Tooth Extraction

There are many reasons a tooth may require extraction, or removal. Pain, infection, bone loss and restorative treatment facilitation are all potential reasons why a tooth may need to be extracted. The bone that holds the tooth in place is called the socket. When a tooth is extracted, the socket may be at risk for deteriorating since it no longer contains a tooth. Disease or infection can also cause socket deterioration. The resulting deterioration can cause problems for a patient who needs dental implants.

Luckily, the deterioration of the socket can be prevented and repaired with a procedure called socket preservation. The goal of the procedure is to preserve the bone and minimize bone loss. One common technique is to fill the empty socket with bone (from tissue banks) or bone-substitute, covered with material that is familiar to the body, such as collagen barrier and then sealed to encourage your body’s ability to regenerate lost bone and tissue.
